Resolution 15-126, 2014
February 2025 will mark the 26th Annual For the Love of Art month here in Las Cruces and the surrounding communities. Initially established by a group of regional artists as a celebration of art across the city, the event is hosted by the ArtForms Artists Association of Las Cruces. This group has been organizing exhibits and events in Las Cruces since 1998.
Every year during February, the group coordinates with art galleries, artist studios, and art spaces throughout town in a celebration of the arts. Many galleries throughout the city participate by hosting special exhibits and events. Last year, there were 39 studio tours, a members show, and an opening reception with live music.
During Love of Art Month, many artists throughout the city open their studios for visits and tours. At times in the past, artists have offered art classes and workshops for the community, including one on gourd painting and another on making quilts. There have also been poetry readings. In 2021, the Las Cruces Museum of Art hosted several virtual programs during February, exposing the work of local artists to the larger world. In 2024, the Southern Chapter of New Mexico Watercolor Society participated, by hosting an exhibit at the Frame and Art Center. To highlight the sensual side of love, 2024 also saw the eighth annal Erotica Show at In Effect Gallery in Mesilla Park.
