XYZ is a 960 square foot space organized into three work areas for visual artists. We provide affordable working spaces to artists who live in the greater Las Cruces area. Our artist studios are available for rent on a 6-month lease basis to individuals 18 years and older. Studios range in size from 145 to 270 square feet, with ceiling heights of 9-11 feet. The two smaller spaces have windows. There is an additional window in the studio, as well as a mini-split heating/cooling/ventilation system. XYZ Studio displays art for viewing or purchase; visits are arranged by appointment only.
Rent at XYZ ranges from $275 to $400 per month. The studio is located on a 2-acre, semi-rural property on a county-maintained road on the west side of Las Cruces, 3 miles from the Mesilla Plaza. Here, artists have a haven from distractions.
XYZ Studios is currently under construction, which is nearing completion. Studio space will be available for rent effective December 1, 2024. Inquiries and visits in the meantime are welcome.
This studio space is designed for three artists. Each has their own semi-private cubicle, with 5' dividers to partition the work area. Otherwise, it is an open floor plan. The studios have overhead lighting and at least four outlets. Artists can furnish the space to their liking, with a desk, easel, lamp, table, etc. Supplies can be kept on-site at all times, though solvent-covered rags need to be removed when the artist is not present. The studio has a private bathroom, refrigerator, storage cabinets, a communal sink, and on-site parking. 24/7 access is available by way of a keypad. The space is only accessible to artists who rent the space, and, of course, the property owners.

Some artists like to have studios in high-traffic areas, near other art venues. That’s not us. Instead, you are in a semi-rural setting, with pecan orchards, minimal traffic, and a property abundant with local wildlife. The only sounds you will hear are those related to pecan farming, the numerous quail that roam the property, and whatever you and the other resident artists choose to talk about. Here, you can immerse yourself in your art with minimal distractions. There is an outdoor gazebo adjacent to the art studio. The property is in the Fairacres community, three miles from the Mesilla Plaza.
We welcome all media with the exception of those requiring heavy equipment or extensive ventilation, such as welding, woodworking and kiln work. Spray paint, aerosol sprays, and open flames are not permitted. Other limits may need to be placed on the type of art produced, if consideration must be given to noise levels or use of certain chemicals.
Our mission is to support and promote the arts by providing accessible and affordable artist workspaces. We look for creatives who are community-minded and will benefit from a co-working, semi-private studio. This is non-residential space and it cannot be sub-leased. Artists are welcome to have guests or visitors in to view their work and sales are permitted. Aside from the formal art showings, we do not charge artists a commission on sales they make at the studios.
We host periodic showings of art in the studio, and resident artists are welcome to apply for this opportunity. This includes Open Studios, as well as artist-specific shows. We promote these events through a variety of forums in Southern New Mexico and online.
XYZ Studios is located on a property that has two spaces for short-term rentals. These are several yards from the studios, so the artists have ample distance. Still, keep in mind that most of these tenants are visiting from outside the area. It's up to each artist, but perhaps showing guests what you're doing could lead to a few sales. Visitors love buying local artistic work.
